April Fools Day wasn't nearly as fun as I had hoped. . . I was too nervous all morning about what was in store for me! Abby, Luke and I stayed up and got a few things ready for Mom and Dad in the morning. That morning, Dad came in and saw Abby and I in her bed and called us "little turds" and that was it! I couldn't fall asleep after that and anytime I heard footsteps, I thought it would be Dad coming back with some revenge. . . but he never did! He is too nice! Mom was taking Luke to his dentist appointment and as she saw her car she said, "Looks like Lorry has been here." Sheesh! I didn't even do the cars! Abby and Luke reclined the seats back in Mom and Dad's cars and turned the windshield wipers and the AC on full blast and turned the radio up a little loud. I guess I have a reputation or something. Abby and Luke aren't as sweet as Mom and Dad think . . .I have been training them well:)
I was leaving yesterday to come back to Boise, and I was nervous to find out if Dad had anything planned for me. He and Mom had no intentions of doing anything. . . who knows where I got my pranking mind. . . but I know it wasn't from Mom and Dad.
As for Mom's flowers. . . she finally figured it out. . . sort of. Here was Dad introduction of the little joke:
"Your mom has all these potted plant starts going, attempting to find out which of our seed stock is any good. Some of the pots are doing pretty good, but there are others which look barren. So Lorry & Abby go outside in the driveway and select some leafy little weed sprouts and shove them in the dirt. Your mom comes back in and is so delighted, saying, "its like they just sprang up overnight!" the next day Lorry & Abby would totally move them to another barren spot and, "Oh, well, looky here, they are coming up afterall!" Kids can be so cruel, :) :) but it was all in good fun, . . . . even Granpa Bob got in on it."
So mom had been watering all of her sprouting little plants and one day she went to tough one of the mysterious new plants and it just fell over. . .no roots at all! She was a little shocked and went on about how those quick growing ones sure are fragile. ha ha! I had to turn away I couldn't help but laugh!
The next day Grandpa Bob and I were asking about her plants. The "new" ones even had little flowers and were leaning towards the sun. Grandpa Bob asked what kind the "new" ones were and Mom even said, "They look like some weeds that I've seen around the yard." But she continued to water them and kept looking at them trying to "figure out how the seeds from the weeds might have got into her potting soil." She really had no idea.
Mom had been out and when she came home, she came walking in with some weeds in her hand, "Look! These are the exact same thing that is growing in my pots. I found these out in the driveway!"
We all started laughing! We told Mom that she had figured it out and that we had "planted" those weeds in there. She was a little confused and still thought that the weeds were actually growing in there. We had to convince her that we put them there and that's why there were no roots. Mom said she would have kept on watering them if we hadn't explained everything. She didn't suspect anything, she was just glad that she had identified the weed and found a match! She was still smiling about it the next day just thinking about how silly she must have seemed. It was cute Mom! You are just such a devoted gardener and so oblivious sometimes for having such silly kids.

We love you Mom and Dad :)
I am home visiting Mom and Dad in Kennewick and let's just say, "the April Fool's Day pranks have been set." We will have to wait until morning to see if and how they worked out! I am so glad that Mom and Dad love us!
. . . I am also way nervous about what Mom and Dad might do back! Abby and I are sleeping in her room together tonight. . .who knows if we will get any sleep! We're too excited to sleep!!!!

Not Yet
I didn't get to have the ultrasound today. . . I was really hoping, but the doctor said they would do it at 20 weeks or so. So that is no more than 2 weeks away which is really exciting! We really don't care what it is, but we just want to know. That baby better not have it's legs crossed or we won't be very happy! We had a new doctor today that we both really liked and we are going to stick with him!
I got to hear the heartbeat of the little baby. David was on his way from work so he missed it :( It was so quick and sounded great. . . I loved it! I will schedule our ultrasound so that David has plenty of time to get there after work...I wouldn't want him to miss that ultrasound for sure!
So we are doing great. . . I am feeling more pregnant than fat which is better for me! David is getting a little nervous about his job as the coach of the monster of a wife that will be coming :) He has been trying to find a book or something with some guidance to help him be ready for the big day! Cute! He is honestly excited to take a pregnancy/birthing/help class. We will see how that goes! I told him I didn't want to go until I was showing a little more so that we don't look out of place.
I think I can feel the baby in my belly. It isn't regular like a heartbeat, and not like anything else. . . very fun! Lots of little flutters/kicks! They are cute now, and I am sure they won't be as cute in 3 months or so! I'll take it for now! Love it!

I finished 1st grade!
Today has been great! I got about 10 hours of sleep because of a surprise nap, so I woke up this morning more than ready to tackle the day!
I was a little sad though because today was my last day of teaching my first graders! My mentor teacher is taking over the teaching next week and I am supposed to go and observe the other classrooms at our school. I don't need a whole week though. I might of mentioned this to my kids so that they would be on their best behavior to make sure I would never have any students as good as they were. Luckily most of them seemed sad to lose me. I was glad though that they were excited to have their teacher come back. I want them to miss me, but their teacher is so great and I wouldn't want them to miss me too much that they wouldn't want her back. . . that would be so sad for her. They really do love her and I couldn't have had a better mentor teacher. She was very supportive and she did not ever lose her concern for her students. Some teachers feel they can take off and relax when they get a student teacher, but she was always right there at every break I had to let me ask questions or share concerns. She let me be in control for the last couple months, but I always knew that she was ready to help if I started drowning!
Some of my most memorable moments with 1st grade:
- Notes and pictures to: Mis. Rd, mSs. ruDD, MRS. RDUD, Miss Red, nss rud, Ms Ruub, or Mrs. Rubb
- Valentine's day party. . . one boy seriously could not believe that he would get valentine's. He would read the note and then walk over real skippity and very excitedly say, "You REALLY gave this to me?!" He only made it to about 4 valentines during the party. . . very cute!
- One student drank out of the urinal. I guess I should have let him get a drink in class???
- Tears from a student who was scared of rubber bands
- two kids who just couldn't hold it long enough :(
- one student told me that "his legs were dizzy." I wasn't quite sure what that meant.
- only sick once!
- One student was so observant, and she let me know that I am getting a little bit bigger, and my teacher was looking a little bit older. Honest, right?
- One student decided to change his name for a day from Adam to Steve. Sometimes he would forget and have to cross out Adam to write "Steev". He didn't like being called Steve the next day, just Adam :)
- Students that pronounce "three" as "free" and spell it like that on every paper. . . even spelling tests :)
- Not getting a sticker for the day's behavior was the worst thing that could happen to them.
- One student telling me I look and smell like a beautiful bouquet of dandelions. . . I tried to not wear yellow flowers in my hair anymore.
- The same student mentioned before sprinkled me with imaginary "princess dust" as he proclaimed me the "queen of the teachers" and kissed my hand :) Too funny!
and my personal favorite from today:
- one student farted aloud and then said, "Whoa! Was that a teacher fart?!" I couldn't believe he tried to blame it on me when he was on the other side of the carpet. I just said "Nice try Stinker!" The kids were laughing and rolling on the floor. . . I got a good laugh out of it too! The lesson didn't start up for a few minutes after that.
What a brave kid! I will definitely miss those kids! They have been so fun, though teachers stress and worry about the success of their students so so so so much! Not only do teachers want to adopt all their students that come from sad homes, but they want each student to learn to read, write, do math, and all that fun school stuff that teaches them all they need to know.
I will not be gone from Central Canyon Elementary School for too long though. I have been hired on to teach reading classes to each of the grades K-5 and I will be back in the middle of April. I am finishing off the school year for a teacher that is having a baby and is going on maternity leave for the end of the school year. I am really excited to get to work with each grade level and I am more thrilled that the school wants me to stay! What a compliment! David and I have been so blessed. . . and busy! We like it though and those kids will be sure I am pregnant by the time summer break comes! Yikes. . . I can't even imagine how big I'll get!!!!

Visits from our new friends!
It has been beautiful all week. Cold in the morning, but by noon, it has been absolutely perfect. 55-60 degrees and a light breeze :) I have no complaints about the weather here!
Since it has been so warm, David and I have had some visitors! We just like to feed them at the door and then they run off once they have had enough. Here was the visitor today that met me as I came home this afternoon.
There are trees all around our apartment complex and some in our grassy area too. There are always squirrels running around and chasing each other and they are fun to watch. This one was so cute. He probably would have come right on in our apartment if I would have let him! Maybe I should have left him as a little surprise for David when he got home. . . kidding! I promise! :)
He and his friends are just so fun! I am glad to feed them the heels of my bread anytime :)

Who would have thought!
This being pregnant sure does have its twists and turns! Last Thursday was the day that it seemed that my belly went from looking a little chubby to pregnant. It seemed to just pop on out there and I definitely wasn't ready for it! I was nearly in tears that morning as I was getting ready to go teach. David had just left for work, and I was frantically trying on clothes to see what would be good enough for the day. Ugh! What a disaster. I was ready to put on some sweatpants and call it a day. My pants seemed to just barely button and when they did button, I looked and felt like I was spilling out of them.. . . especially as I bent over to put on my shoes and socks, so so so uncomfortable! Pretty gross feeling to me! I was trying to find a clean shirt that was a little loose so that maybe I could hide the new muffin top I was showing off for the day. Not too much luck. I put a shirt on and threw a jacket on over that and called it good enough! Quite the frustrating morning. So as I went through the day, I couldn't stop thinking about this new belly of mine. . . it didn't seem as cute as I was hoping it would be. I was not ready to show it of by any means.
On my way home from school, I stopped at the mall. I had to find something to wear for Friday that actually fit...after all it was class picture day. Great! This was just what I needed. David and I had talked about me needing some maternity clothes, but I had no idea that I would need some this soon. I started looking around on my own. I didn't want to buy a whole new wardrobe as I didn't want to spend ALL of David's hard earned money without him having any idea of this adventure I was having. So I set out to at least buy a new pair of pants and a shirt so I could at least look ok for pictures the next day. The maternity clothes I saw looked like those "mom jeans" that seem to enlarge and magnify the booty in all the wrong ways. So I steered clear of those. I had heard the maternity store clothes were all so expensive and overpriced so I wasn't too excited to hunt those down either. I settled for a bigger pair of jeans and I found a cute shirt that isn't maternity, but it is the baby doll style that gives a little belly room. I felt ok with this and went on home.
I got home and wanted to show David what I had bought. I tried the shirt on and it was great. He realized that the pants were just regular pants and that I was just going to grow out of them in a month or two. I didn't know what to say because he was right. So I told him all about my day and how "great" it was. I told him about the clothes I found for pregnant women and begged him not to make me buy them. I was in no way ready to look like a big booty waddling woman with a tent draped over my shoulders! I wasn't going for it yet. I would rather spill out of my little clothes and just wear a big sign that said, "I'm not fat, I'm pregnant!"
David was a good as a man gets! I think he's been reading some pregnancy books for men or something because he nailed it! He told me how cute and beautiful and adorable and wonderful I looked with the little baby bump along with lots of hugs and kisses. . . it couldn't have been better. He put on his shoes and socks and was ready to go out shopping for some maternity clothes that I liked that had a little more style and cute pregnant shape to them. Sadly by that time the stores were closing, but he really tried. We scheduled our Friday night date night for my much needed shopping trip. He was actually reall excited to go and looked up all the maternity stores around here and mapped out our date.
By the second store, I had found what I needed. I got some COMFORTABLE pants that let me move, bend over, and do what I wanted! I found a few shirts that had no resemblance to a tent and even a dress to!
I can honestly say that I am now glad to be pregnant again. I was caught a little off guard when my belly popped out over night! I thought it would be a little more gradual, but I guess I can't be so lucky all the time. I don't feel the need to try and suck in the belly anymore as it is no use. My students have started asking if I am pregnant now too. About four kids ask each day. Luckily I am since they are so honest! When they ask, I just say, "YA! I'm going to have a baby!" They think I am kidding and they look puzzled as to if I am or not. They'll figure it out!
So here is a picture of my new look. I have my new pants on so no spilling! Hooray! I am 17 weeks along and I have my next appointment in a week. I might get to find out if it is a boy or a girl, but I think that it is a big might. I am hoping, but we will see if my doctor will let me find out a little early. I was told I would find out at 20 weeks so I will be a couple weeks ahead of schedule, so we will see. Of course the little baby would have to cooperate and be willing to expose itself too!
David will be coming with me for this appointment so I hope we get to find out together! David has been way too good to me and I can't thank and hug and kiss him enough! He really is great and tries so hard to understand his role in this pregnancy whatever it is:) I couldn't have asked for more! He's a pro coach already and takes care of me and my wimpy complaints! He is VERY excited to get this little baby reading, writing, playing ping pong, potty trained, walking, talking, and starting it's own business once it is here:) He has it all planned out. He can't wait to be a dad! I am excited too, just getting used to this new look. I don't know that I ever thought about my gut and my butt ever looking so similar from the side!!!! :)

Thanks Dad for making me So Funny!
I went home to visit my parents and my youngest brother and sister. I pulled a little joke. . . I promise David didn't have any idea I did this, though Abby and Luke did. . . and it looks like my Dad was the one I tricked! I woke up to this email this morning that had me crying I was laughing so hard!

Lorry Rudd you scoundrel!!
You thought I wouldn't find out who set the booby trap in my freezer, didn't you? I'll remember this one for a long time for sure. I know you know what I'm talking about, and I bet your husband set you up to it because when you came in that night we were all eating our Blizzards while you and David had to just watch. . . . . . . . Sooooooooo gooooooood !!!!! Well, what you guys did was unforgivable, and just not nice.
For the rest of you, curious to know what happened, here's the 'rest of the story'. David & Lorry were traveling to be with us for the weekend, not arriving until after 9 pm. Abby, Luke & I went to KaHS's B-Ball game and on the way home, Abby left with Kaylee and Luke & I enjoyed an aftergame treat, Blizzards at DQ. When we got home, there's Lorry & David, just arrived minutes before us. David was giving me the eye, looking at my Blizzard, wondering where his was, and Lorry, could care less, being pregnant and all like she was. Well, after a while, I went out for pizza and came back - no Blizzards, just pizza!! no one stopped to look in our well stocked freezer of ice cream goodies, . . . no they wanted a Blizzard!! Well, the night passed, pizza and a bowl of ice cream had to do for the night.
Next day, I had errands, refereed a couple of B-ball games, watched Luke play, then home for the day cleaning up the yard, pruning and spraying trees, boring stuff. I don't think David & Lorry were out of bed yet! Oh, I take that back, Lorry was tripping around making noise in the kitchen, so she was up. Later in the day, Lorry & David take off to runs some errands and they take 2 for 1 DQ coupons with Abby & Luke (?) while I continue to labor outside. Nothing much else happened that day, so into Sunday morning, making breakfast I happen to see this DQ cup with what looks like half full of someone's uneaten Blizzard. I ask around, no one comments about it, so I just leave it alone. David & Lorry leave, going back to Boise. A couple of days go by, maybe Wednesday evening, when kids are gone to MIA and Gigi was at a class, . . . I snoop around for something for dinner. Opening the freezer, here's this cup again, . . . .no one has touched it. Hmmmmm!! So I take it and try to break off a little bite, to see what flavor it is, . . . and man that thing is hard as a rock! just a very little crumb or flake is broken off and I nearly ran a fork through my hand as it pierced the sidewall of the paper cup. Tasted like a salty nut, . . . odd!! So I try another taste, again almost severing my hand off this time trying to get a bigger chunk of it to break off. Again, another little flake. Same reaction, not creamy or chocolatety at all. not real nasty, but definitely not good like ice cream. So I just put it away for another attempt maybe later.
The kids come home and I asked Abby, "Whose DQ Blizzard is that in the freezer?" And she gets the biggest smile on her face. I look at Luke who hadn't registered yet, . . . Abby trying to give him a clue or face gesture, but not connecting. Then all of a sudden he does understand and they both break out laughing. Your mom & I just look at each other, wondering if they got enough 'gray matter', being the last two kids and the gene pool was maybe running a little low by then.
So Abby goes into this description of what Lorry did with her afternoon Cassedia left-overs. It seems that there was about half a DQ Cup worth of refried beans left in the pan, and she got the bright idea to save them in her empty DQ cup. They looked remarkably like a chocolate, brownie-fudge with nuts DQ Blizzard. Could've fooled me!!
So that's my little story of the mysterous DQ cup. I'll remember to return the favor some day. Love DAD
I had no idea that refried beans. . . with a little bit of taco seasoning. . . could look so much like chocolate! As I prepared the fancy treat I could have sworn it really looked like poop and that no one would ever think to try and eat it! Maybe it looks different when you freeze it :) Dad sure is hooked on his ice cream and he will risk his flesh and blood to just get a taste! And he went for two tastes!!!!
I never imagined you would make me such a great prankster Dad. Thanks for all your support :) You can have the rest of that Blizzard. . . it is all yours! Just think of it as chocolate ice cream swirled with nuts and chewy brownie! Love you Dad! I promise.
